Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest
- Students in high school grades nine
through twelve attending public, private,
parochial, or home schools are eligible.
Original essays can be no more than 1,000
words. Essays must describe an act of
political courage by a U.S. elected official
that occurred during or after 1956, the
publication date of Profiles in Courage.
Essays about previous Profile in Courage
recipients will be disqualified unless they
describe an act of political courage other
than the act for which the award was given.

Scholars Program - The Ron Brown
Scholar Program seeks to identify
African-American high school seniors who

The Gates
Millennium Scholars (GMS) Scholarship
- GMS will select 1,000 students to receive
a renewable, need-based, merit scholarship
providing financial support throughout your
undergraduate career (and doctoral degree in
some cases) at any U.S. accredited college
or University. Gates Millennium Scholars are
provided with personal and professional
development through leadership programs
along with academic support throughout their
college career. Please take the time to read
all of the eligibility criteria and

application. Students are eligible to be
considered for a GMS scholarship if they:
•Are African American, American
Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander
American or Hispanic American •Are a
citizen, national or legal permanent

a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an
unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED
•Will enroll for the first time at a U.S.
located, accredited college or university in
the fall of 2011 as a full-time,

Crossing Foundation Scholarship- these
scholarships range from $500-$5,000 and are
for students planning careers in government
service. Scholarships are to be used for study
at the college of the recipient’s choice

citizens and are planning careers of service
to the United States in local, state, or
federal government. Entrants receiving full
four-year scholarships shall be eligible for

Goodwin Scholarship – This is a $1000
scholarship for African-American students who

McDonald House National Student Scholarships
- Applicant must be a high school senior.
This scholarship recognizes academic
achievement, community involvement and
leadership, and financial need. Scholarships

heritage, RMHC/African American Future
Achievers-applicant must have at least one
parent of African American or Black
Caribbean heritage, RMHC/Hacer- applicant

Eagle Scout Association Scholarships-
BSA Hall/McElwain
Merit Scholarship ($1,000–$2,500)-the number

and undergraduate college students up to
completion of their junior year. These
scholarships are paid directly to the

Boy Scouts of
America Eagle Scout Academic Scholarships
($2,500–$50,000)- Applicants may submit one
copy of the application (along with required
attachments) to be considered for all of the
academic scholarships. Recipients must meet
the minimum SAT or ACT score and are chosen
based on Scouting record, school activities,
and financial need. These scholarships are
paid directly to the college or university.

The
Chicana/o Scholarship Fund (U of U)-
These scholarships will be awarded to
students of diversity who promote the
cultural pride and tradition of the Chicana/o-Latina/o
community. This scholarship fund recognizes

education. The selection process evaluates
each applicant on the basis of family
background, life challenges, scholastic
effort, involvement in the community, and
financial need. Four scholarships in the
amount of $2500 each are awarded to
graduating high school seniors admitted to
the University of Utah in the fall of 2012.
