John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - Students in high school grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools are eligible. Original essays can be no more than 1,000 words. Essays must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956, the publication date of Profiles in Courage. Essays about previous Profile in Courage recipients will be disqualified unless they describe an act of political courage other than the act for which the award was given. Essays must have a minimum of five sources, including one non-internet source. Ron Brown Scholars Program - The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Scholarship winners will receive $10,000 annually for 4 years. Burger King Scholars Program –Win a $50,000, $25,000, $5000, or $1000 scholarship! High School Seniors, Burger King employees and children of Burger King employees are eligible to apply. For complete eligibility requirements and to apply, visit http://www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/bksp_scholarship_eligibility.html.  The BK Scholars application period runs from November 15, 2011-January 10, 2012. Deadline: January 10, 2012.

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Scholarship - GMS will select 1,000 students to receive a renewable, need-based, merit scholarship providing financial support throughout your undergraduate career (and doctoral degree in some cases) at any U.S. accredited college or University. Gates Millennium Scholars are provided with personal and professional development through leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career. Please take the time to read all of the eligibility criteria and instructions before beginning your application. Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: •Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American •Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States •Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED •Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university in the fall of 2011 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student (with the exception of students pursuing a high school diploma while concurrently enrolled--what Itineris students are doing). •Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities •Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (must submit a FAFSA application and be pell eligible) •Have completed and submitted all three required forms: Student Application (Nominee Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student’s academic record (Nominator Form) and an evaluation of the student’s community service and leadership activities (Recommender Form) by the deadline. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship - This scholarship is for any student who has a parent with MS or who has MS themselves. Scholarship amounts range from $1000-$3000. The application is simple and can be completed online at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/scholarship  Deadline: January 13, 2012.

The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program (The University of Texas at Dallas) -  Priority Deadline: November 1, 2011: Priority Deadline for student application and counselor recommendation—ensures notification concerning semifinalist status by November 15. December 5, 2011: Semifinalist Deadline for invited students to submit three additional recommendations-ensures notification concerning finalist status by January 25. Regular Deadline: January 6, 2012: Regular Deadline for student application with four recommendations—ensures notification concerning finalist status by January 25. Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship- these scholarships range from $500-$5,000 and are for students planning careers in government service. Scholarships are to be used for study at the college of the recipient’s choice (other awards in amounts as the judges may determine). Eligibility: competition is open to all high school seniors who are U.S. citizens and are planning careers of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government. Entrants receiving full four-year scholarships shall be eligible for one-year special awards. To apply and learn more, visit www.gwcf.org.  Deadline: January 15, 2012.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Dovie Juanita Miles Goodwin Scholarship – This is a $1000 scholarship for African-American students who will graduate in 2012. Application includes two letters of recommendation and a 500 word essay. See Laura Ning for an application. Deadline: Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

Ronald McDonald House National Student Scholarships - Applicant must be a high school senior. This scholarship recognizes academic achievement, community involvement and leadership, and financial need. Scholarships available: RMHC/Asia-applicant must have at least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage, RMHC/African American Future Achievers-applicant must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage, RMHC/Hacer- applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage, RMHC Scholars – All students can apply. Students may only apply for one national RMHC scholarship. Minimum amount is $1,000. To apply go to www.rmhc.org.  Deadline: January 27, 2012.

Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals - The Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals is offering a $500 scholarship for students planning a business office career. Applicant must have completed two (2) or more year-long business education courses. The application is on the UAEOP web site and applicants can type directly onto the application. Use the following web site, www.uaeop.org, and click on “awards” and then “student scholarship.” Applicants should type directly on the form and then print out a paper copy for submission. Deadline: January 31, 2012.

The Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals Scholarship- a $500 scholarship for students planning a business office career. Applicants must have completed two (2) or more year-long business education courses. National Eagle Scout Association Scholarships-

BSA Hall/McElwain Merit Scholarship ($1,000–$2,500)-the number of scholarships awarded varies annually depending on the funds available. Recipients are chosen based on Scouting participation, character, and community service. Selection is open to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate college students up to completion of their junior year. These scholarships are paid directly to the college or university.

Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Academic Scholarships ($2,500–$50,000)- Applicants may submit one copy of the application (along with required attachments) to be considered for all of the academic scholarships. Recipients must meet the minimum SAT or ACT score and are chosen based on Scouting record, school activities, and financial need. These scholarships are paid directly to the college or university. The Chicana/o Scholarship Fund (U of U)- These scholarships will be awarded to students of diversity who promote the cultural pride and tradition of the Chicana/o-Latina/o community. This scholarship fund recognizes and assists students in their undergraduate education. The selection process evaluates each applicant on the basis of family background, life challenges, scholastic effort, involvement in the community, and financial need. Four scholarships in the amount of $2500 each are awarded to graduating high school seniors admitted to the University of Utah in the fall of 2012. Weber State University Freshman Wildcat Welcome - Wildcat Welcome is an open house-style event for prospective students, parents, and counselors to visit WSU and experience this amazing place firsthand. Students can attend Major Fest where representatives from WSU's 230 majors will be on hand to talk about their programs and answer questions. For more information visit the Major Fest website at http://www.weber.edu/SSC/majorfest.html.  One of the best reasons to come to Wildcat Welcome is that all students who are admitted and qualify for an academic scholarship will walk away from campus with their scholarship offer in hand! That means you can get your scholarship award much earlier than normal! Date: Wednesday, February 1, 2012 Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Where: Shepherd Union Building At Wildcat Welcome you can: get your scholarship offer and accept it, take a campus tour, explore WSU majors and programs at Major Fest (happening the same day); attend information sessions on topics like paying for college, choosing a career, getting involved in campus life, and much more.
