Students who develop credit
deficiencies should meet with their
guidance counselor in a timely fashion
to discuss make-up credit options and to
develop a plan to recover credit as soon
as possible. The Jordan School
District requires 27 credits for high
school graduation. If a student
fails a high school course, depending on
the type of course and the number of
credits that they have accumulated
towards graduation, they may have to
take a course outside of the regular
school day to recover credit. The Jordan
School District has developed
guidelines
that students must adhere to when
determining how to recover credit and
what type of credit must be recovered
outside of the regular school day.

Parents
should also consult with a
guidance
counselor before selecting a make-up or
credit recovery program to help their
student with graduation requirements.
Credit recovery resources/institutions
are numerous (sometimes accreditation
can be an issue) and a guidance
counselor can be a valuable resource to
help a student and their parent
determine what is the best option(s) for
their specific situation. Below is
a list of common resources that students
often use to recover credit:
Aventa
Learning- Itineris currently
partners with Aventa Learning to deliver
high-quality, online courses for
Itineris students. Aventa courses for
credit recovery are taken in addition to
a full course load at Itineris and
coursework must be completed at the
Itineris Assessment Center during
regular school hours. Aventa courses are
to be completed within a semester and
require 60 instructional hours. Students
are responsible to pay for exam(s) to be
proctored by approved faculty (approx.
$35.00). Students will need to meet with
their counselor to register for an
Aventa course.
Utah
Electronic High School courses have
been developed by master teachers and
are correlated to the Utah State core
standards and objectives.
EHS
offers a flexible, open-entry/open-exit
curriculum. Students are able to enroll
any day of the year and work at their
own pace until the course is completed,
although students are expected to
complete courses within twelve months.
Students who wish to earn only partial
credit are able to do so. As a student
on
EHS,
you will spend about 50 hours to
complete a quarter credit, or about 200
hours for a full credit. The courses are
rigorous and require dedication by
students.
EHS is
fully accredited by the Northwest
Association of Schools and Colleges and
Universities. Students who complete
courses from EHS will have a certificate
of completion mailed to their local
school of residence with the grade and
credit earned. Students and
parents should consult with a guidance
counselor before registering for any
EHS
course. Starting October 15, 2007
students taking classes at the Utah
Electronic High School need a proctor
for final tests in each of their
classes. The Jordan School
District has outlined a policy for
Proctoring Services in it's
Credit Guidelines
(see page 7).
BYU
Independent Study currently offers a
wide selection of high school courses
online and via correspondance.
Itineris Early College High School
accepts
BYU Independent
Study course work for both
make-up and full credit. Students and
parents should consult with a guidance
counselor before registering for any
BYU Independent
Study course.
